How to Calculate Quantity of Washroom Tiles

Size of the Walls for the Washroom Tiles

Suppose the dimensions of the walls of the washroom are 8ft by 10ft with one window and a door. The height level for tiles is generally 7ft. So the first step would be to calculate all four walls of the washroom.

Wall A = 10ft, Wall B = 10ft, Wall C = 8ft and Wall D = 8ft 10 + 10 + 8 + 8 = 36 RFt (running ft)

Total Area of the Walls of the Washroom

Now you add the dimensions of all the four walls and you will have the running foot of the washroom, which is 36 RFT. Once the running foot of the washroom is calculated we will now calculate the total area of the walls in the washroom. The formula to find the total area of the walls in sq ft is that you multiply your running foot with the height level for tiles in the washroom. By doing that you will have the total area of the washroom walls.

36 x 7 = 252 sq ft

Size of Window and Door

Now we need to minus the size of the window and the size of the door. Suppose the size of the window is 3ft by 3ft and so the size of the window would be 9 sq ft, and if the door is 2.5ft by 7ft then the size of the door would be 17.5 sq ft.

Window = 3 x 3 = 9 sq ft Door = 2.5 x 7 = 17.5 sq ft

Total Wall Measurements

So now that we have the measurements of the walls, window and the door, we will now find the final measurements of the walls, taking out the extra measurements of the window and the door: Quantity – (W+D). We take the size of the window and the door as worked out above and take it away from the total size of the walls (walls x height), which was 252 sq ft.

252 – (9 + 17.5) = 225.5 sq ft will be the total measurements of the floor required for tiles.

Floor Measurement

Now that we have worked out the total measurements of the wall we will now work out the floor measurement for tiles — for that we need to multiply the length and the width of the washroom.

Length x width = floor area 10 x 8 = 80 sq feet

Washroom Tiles Required in Sq Ft

After finding out all the necessary measures we will now move on to our final step of finding the total tiles required for the washroom. To find that out we need to add the total area of the walls (225.5 sq ft) and add it up with the total area of the floor (80 sq ft): Walls + Floor = Total Quantity of the tiles required.

225.5 + 80 = 305.5 sq ft

Washroom Tiles Required in Sq M

As the tiles are measured in square meters here in Pakistan, we need to convert it into square meters for more convenience. For doing that we will divide the total measurement of the tiles in sq ft by 10.76: Total measurements of tiles required in sq ft / 10.76 = Tiles in square meters.

305.5 / 10.76 = 28.4 sqm

So a total of 28.4 sq m tile will be used for this washroom.
